    hey jeff,
quick question i weigh 155 and im 5.7….whats the ideal size for a kiteboard if i plan on rideing freestyle. thanks

    • Jeff says:

      Hey Jon,

When choosing a board a lot is personal preference and what you feel comfortable riding and also in the conditions you will be riding in most. Usually people that are interested in freestyle riding like to ride flat water. Here are some characteristics of a good freestyle board. You want to have a wider board so this way its a little easier to stomp those difficult landings. Its important to have really comfortable and cushy foot pads that can take the hard impacts. You want to have a flatter board that is stiff so that you can edge hard to get good pop.

I would recommend getting a board that is between 130 and 135 in length by 39 to 41 in width. I am 5″11 and 170lbs, I ride a chit chat by JN that is 134 by 40.5. This is an excellent freestyle board made of carbon fiber so its stiff and it gives you excellent pop. For more info on this board please check out my buy gear page under boards http://www.stkittskiteboarding.com/buy-gear/boards/. For prices please email me at jeff@stkittskiteboarding.com

      Thank you for writing in.

hey jeff its john from miami…..quick questions bro…..just got a board its a best 130 pro-series….i got it with no fins and i just wanted to know if i should get fins from best or any brand of fins is compatible with my board?…that and…how does the size of the fin affect my riding? is bigger the fin the better? more or less control?….let me know bro. thanks

    • Jeff says:

      Hey John,

You can put other fins on the board. Usually most fins are 1 to 2 inches. The bigger fins give you a little more control in choppy water. Your really riding on your edges most of the time. Its not such a big thing and I wouldn’t stress about it. I would go with a 1.5 to 2 inch fin for your conditions. I am coming down to Miami on Thursday for a week, if there’s good wind we can go do a lesson.
