Mike and I went out to Turtle beach yesterday and both had a really great session. Mike’s riding improves each time he hits the water. I was teaching him hooked in Raley’s and towards the end of the session I look over at him and see him stomp a sick raley. We were both overjoyed to say the least. I also had a really wicked session. I was stomping a lot of my passes which is always a wonderful feeling. Towards the end of our second session Mike was a little tired so he decided to do some filming. First I wanted to get a blind judge 3 on video. I have been crashing a lot with this trick but managed to nail it the second attempt on video. Next I was eager to get a slim chance on video. This one didn’t go as well. I crashed pretty hard the 4th attempt and whacked my head and arm off the board. A little dazed from the crash with an excited audience I decided to push even harder. A few hard crashes later, I stomped a nice slim chance.

Enjoy the videos!

Had a blast with Inon

By Jeff · Comments (1)

Inon owns one of the local beach bars on the strip here. We go there sometimes after a nice session to enjoy a cold beer and some good laughs. Inon decided he wanted to give Kite boarding a try. We had two sessions and Inon is at a water start level. He really enjoys it and wants to keep going. St.Kitts Kiteboarding school is currently looking into getting some sponsors to help with the purchase of gear so some of the locals can get into the sport as we would love to see it grow throughout our local community. A special thanks to Michel for assisting to make this lesson possible.

Check out Inon’s bar next time your in St.Kitts!

Thanks for a great night out

By Jeff · Comments (1)

One of the best parts about being a kite instructor is you get the opportunity to meet great people from all over the world. This week was no different. Unfortunately we had some bad storms all week but towards the end it got better and Neal who was really looking forward to doing some kiting finally had a chance to get out there and work on his skills. He made tremendous improvements in just a short time and really got his balance and control up to do long tacks in both directions. Neal enjoyed it so much and offered to take me out for dinner and some drinks with his wonderful wife and friends. We had a blast!!! Thanks for a great time guys.

P.S.
There’s not a cloud in the sky and its blowing a perfect 18 knots today. lol.

A wonderful day for some

By Jeff · Comments (0)

The other day John, Mike and I went out for a session at turtle beach. We were met by Benjamin who kites over at Nevis and had never been kiting on st kitts before. Mike mentioned that he saw a bunch of students heading over to Sandy bank so John asks if I wanted to kite over there. We had to get up wind quite a bit before we could head down wind to Sandy bank. I got upwind much faster and headed downwind to Sandy bank. I arrive at Sandy bank and the beach is full of students, the music is blaring and its a great time. I finally land my kite and wondered what happen to John. That thought lasted a second until some students greeted me with a cold beer and we started chatting about kiteboarding. I figured John gave up and continued kiting at Turtle beach. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case at all. John got caught to close to the mountains and of coarse the wind was messed up and he lost power and couldn’t relaunch his kite. He had to self rescue and hike through some treacherous conditions up mountains, in prickly bushes through trees without knowing where he was while carrying all his gear bare foot. It was quite priceless to see the look on his face when he had heard about how my day went.

South winds

By Jeff · Comments (5)

In St.Kitts the wind is pretty consistent and always blows from the east because we get steady trade winds. We got some south winds yesterday and today. It was nice to ride on the Caribbean side by Ziggy’s. The conditions weren’t the greatest but the beach was packed full of students for beach volley ball so it was good marketing to kite in front of them. Plus we won our volley ball games.

It was a great day!!!

Today I had  a lesson with Jess and Mel, the wind was a little light but both girls did excellent.  Later on I found out that Jess had rode her bike over 8 miles at 7am to be here today for the lesson. Now this isn’t your average flat roads either, this is through hills and turns the entire way. Now that’s determination!!! Of coarse after an 8 mile bike ride and a 2 hour lesson of kiteboarding she must have been exhausted so I drove her home.

Thank you girls for coming out! Next time well get you up on the board!

Although I was super happy to find an incredible spot with flat water in Nevis, my quest to find similar conditions in St.Kitts continued. Now I kited in flat water here before but you need the right wind direction and the spots weren’t exactly ideal. Like a dirty pond or by the marriott can be great but only for one or two experienced riders because there is not much downwind space. Once again Michel’s knowledge of the island finally led John and I to the north end of the island. Well we found a kite heaven!!! A spot similar to Nevis there is endless amount of flat water, lots of beach space for kite set up, small waves to jump off and of coarse a beautiful scenery.

You can’t get better conditions then that!!!

Today I had to go back to Nevis for another session so Michel took Kara and I over. We had a good session in the morning then had lunch. As we were waiting for our food I get a call from someone telling me that my kite was floating away in the water. We rushed to the beach to see my kite way out there floating away into the middle of the sea. The wind had shifted and then died so I was unable to take another kite to rescue mine. Lucky enough some of the local fishermen noticed my kite floating away and rescued it for me. I gave them a nice tip for a job well done. Also that was only my second time in Nevis ever and its a good thing I had handed out some business cards yesterday to some people I met on the beach and they were nice enough to call.

Thanks guys!!!

Kiteboarding in Nevis

By Jeff · Comments (0)

Today John and I finally made it to Nevis  to go scout out some new kiteboarding spots. Man did we hit the jack pot. There is a beautiful spot at Herberts Beach about a 7 minute drive from the car ferry port. It has endless amount of flat water that is blocked by reef. It has a nice big beach to set up on and beautiful scenery. I had a great session. I was nice and powered on my Prima Donna 3 7m and was riding great. Couldn’t ask for a better day.

Anyone Can do it!!!

By Jeff · Comments (0)

Fred had contacted me saying he was coming down on vacation and wanted to kite with me. Sure enough when I met up with Fred on the beach to my surprise he is a 70 year old man. Fred and I had a wonderful kite session together and Fred is doing small jumps.  With some tips of mine he started to land them a lot better and I told him I was going to teach him a back roll. He has a few more days and I am excited to see him try a back roll and land them.

People have a big misconception about kiteboarding that it takes a lot of strength and so on. However my oldest student was a 68 year old man and my youngest was an 8 year old girl. Most people definitely have more strength then them so get out there and give it a try.

This sport is for EVERYONE!!!
